Koinonia Community is seeking to fill the position of a speech therapist for children as detailed below;

Reporting line: Project manager.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  1. Facilitate quality beneficiary assessment sessions in line with their rehabilitation care plans. This involves facilitation of programs in mentorship and education
  2. Coordinate and plan with the other staff members on internal control systems, work schedules and follow ups such as community, home, hospital and school visits
  3. planning and providing appropriate interventions on Articulation and Phonological Delay (Sound Errors), Language Delays (Expressive and/or Receptive), Social Skills, Auditory Processing, Language Deficits, Apraxia of Speech, Fluency/Stuttering and resonance among others to children with special needs
  4. Promote team work in the facilitation of beneficiary activities with other members of staff and volunteers.
  5. Giving advice and support to patients, family members and teachers
  6. maintain records, case notes and write report
  7. liaising with doctors, physiotherapists, teachers, family members and carers
  8. Performing controlled therapy sessions with individuals, groups and/or families.
  9. Plan and conduct monthly meetings with the parents and the community
  10. Ensure effective communication, mobilization and networking with other relevant organizations for referrals and support in the rescue, rehabilitation and reintegration of beneficiaries.
  11. Compile beneficiary related training and orientation materials to promote knowledge sharing with other members of staff, donors and all other stakeholders.
  12. Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Manager

 

Minimum Requirements and experience

  • Qualification in speech therapy for children or related field.
  • Skills in counseling and special needs education will be an added advantage
  • Computer literacy a must: working knowledge of MS office required;
  • Good knowledge of human rights and especially the rights of children living with disabilities
  • Experience in capacity building which includes facilitation of community-based training and awareness
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • No less than 2 years previous work experience,

 

Terms of Employment:

  • I year Renewable Contract on part-time basis
  • Probation period for the first 3 Months

Maintains safe and secure environment for children by acting as a role model and participating in planning and monitoring activities.
Job Duties and responsibilities:
1. Monitor and authorize the entrance and departure of children and other persons in the children department.
2. Act as a teacher in the after school study sessions by helping the children with their homework, revision and creative learning activities.
3. Facilitate the creation of children groups for discussions, talent development and club-based activities. He/she will participate in child-based training programs and weekly meetings for the formation of the children.
4. Give daily feedback reports to the supervisors about what’s going on with the children and clarify to the children about expectations from teachers, family and the community.
5. Use personal life experiences as a role model to mentor the children on life choices relating to behavior, personal hygiene, school, study skills, career as well as life skills.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
1. He/she must be a holder of a K.C.S.E certificate (Grade C- and above) or vocational training completion certificate
2. Having been a member of a school club will be an added advantage
3. He/ She must have strong interpersonal skills together with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to approach and speak to children
4. Produce a recommendation letter from your former school
5. Demonstrated good behavior & a good role-model
6. Willing to work in a collaborative and a child friendly environment

Job purpose:

The physiotherapist will provide physiotherapy services to children with physical difficulties resulting from illness, injury or disabilities.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assess and treat children with developmental, congenital and neuromuscular disorders
  • Do qualitative and quantitative assessment to analyze and diagnose the nature and extent of impairments
  • Perform in depth client evaluation, develop treatment plans and manage individualized treatment focused on the client’s individual goals
  • Implement treatment plan by using exercises that stimulate and activate different parts of the body including play therapy
  • Keep records of initial evaluation, progress and discharge of clients
  • Work with family members to recognize and change behavior patterns that impede progress and train techniques for home program
  • Collaborate with other therapists to develop and implement individual and group program for the client’s progress
  • To periodically review and evaluate therapy approach and client’s progress and make recommendation and implementation as need be   
  • Conduct domiciliary visits for physiotherapy services and identify new cases of disabilities.
  • Ensure continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing and instructing families and caregivers in home exercise programs.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Diploma in physiotherapy from a recognized institution with valid license from the physiotherapist board (KSP).
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience; working with children with special needs is an added advantage.
  • He/she must have strong interpersonal skills together with excellent written and verbal communication skills, self driven and motivated.
  • Experience and competence in use of Basic Computer applications.
  • Good team working skills.

  11. Facilitate beneficiary related training and orientation materials to promote establishment of income generating activities, knowledge building and sharing with other stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements and experience

  • Diploma Business Administration, entrepreneurship, social work or related field.
  • Managed successful businesses for at least three years
  • Strong interpersonal & training skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously or in a team with a high attention to detail.
  • Excellent work ethic, proactive, and flexibile to work long hours when required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, and general computer & technology literacy.
  • Due to the nature of the work, fluency in Swahili will be a strong advantage.
