On July 30, 2025, Koinonia Community joined the world in commemorating the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, under this year’s powerful theme of: “Human Trafficking is Organized Crime – End the Exploitation.” The event, organized by the State Department of Children Services – Kamukunji Sub-County, Nairobi County brought together a wide range of civil-society partners all committed to raising awareness and mobilizing action to protect vulnerable individuals from trafficking and exploitation.

The day began with a flag-off at the Kamukunji Sub-County Commissioner’s Office, led by the Sub-County Children’s Officer. A vibrant procession followed, moving through the Kamukunji community and concluding at the California Innovation Centre. Along the way, participants who included children, community members, government bodies representatives and civil society organizations representatives engaged the public with informative messages, calling for unity in the fight against human trafficking.

At Koinonia, our commitment to this cause runs deep. Over the years, we’ve worked in challenging environments to prevent trafficking, support survivors and build protective community structures. Though often carried out quietly, our efforts have been grounded in the belief that every human being deserves freedom, dignity and safety, as one of our team members powerfully expressed during the event, “The fight against human trafficking is one of the greatest moral battles of our time and today we’re saying with clarity and courage: enough is enough!” Human trafficking is not isolated or accidental, it is a calculated and coordinated crime and to counter it effectively, we must be equally united, strategic and committed in our response. Our work includes identifying and supporting survivors, creating safe spaces for healing and most importantly, promoting prevention by equipping families, caregivers and young people with knowledge and resources, we reduce vulnerability and stop exploitation before it begins.

The commemoration also served as a platform for strengthening partnerships. Participants shared ideas and explored opportunities for collaboration, highlighting the importance of collective action in addressing systemic issues that allow trafficking to persist. It was a moment of reflection, strategy and solidarity.

We extend our sincere appreciation to every individual and organization that continues to champion this cause, whether through awareness creation, reporting, direct support to survivors or advocacy. Together, we envision a future where no child is exploited, no woman is deceived, and no young person is treated as a commodity. United, we can end human trafficking.
