TABASAMU LA MAMA
Tabasamu la Mama is a Koinonia project dedicated to rescuing street-connected mothers and their children who find themselves on the streets of Nairobi due to various unique challenges like domestic violence and abuse, broken marriages, poverty, early teen pregnancies, substance abuse and lack of employment opportunities among many others. While on the streets the mothers together with their children face various risks and challenges that compound the challenges they already endure like access to health care, safety concerns, lack of shelter and proper nutrition, stigma and discrimination.
The project supports the mothers through a model that has THREE stages:
Phase 1: Rescue and rehabilitation with main activities being psychosocial support, life skills training and informal education, day-care for children among others.
Phase 2; Semi-independent with main activity being on empowering them with the necessary resources and vocational skills.
Phase 3; Independent with main activity being on economic & livelihood empowerment ensuring they have the support they need to thrive and fulfill their potential.
Project Goal and Mission: Create a more inclusive society where every woman and girl can thrive, irrespective of their background or circumstances that enables them to lead fulfilling lives.
